Habits

As more and more people are getting into a hectic lifestyle, a need to have a good time management techniques that built-in part of your life, you have to follow any simple requirements. You no longer have the luxury to waste valuable time in your day.

We can’t control the way time is. We can’t make it less or more. However, we can control the way we handle the spare moments in our day. We can make changes on how we use our time, and that can benefit us if we’re able to get more done in one day.

Following simple time management techniques can help you get more out of life. You can pay attention to your home life, work and appointments without ignoring any one of them. It all comes down to your time management technique.

However, to adopt effective time management habits there are any things you should be doing. To begin with, you will need to use time management tools. It does not matter if you are using a paper-based to-do list system, a day timer or a complicated software program.

Step #1 – Physically managing your time

The first step to physically managing your time is to know where the time is going. You can plan how you are going to spend your time in the future because work will be done earlier. There are many different ways to set this up quickly.

What are the useful tips for effective time management

It does not matter how you keep track of everything. Just make sure you figure out any way to physically manage your time. This way you know how you are going to spend your time. You should make sure you prioritize with these tasks.

Put all of the projects you have to have done on the top of the list. The things that can wait can go on the bottom of the list. Make sure you know out of all your tasks which ones you have to accomplish. Then set the goal to how far you have to get on the list for each day.

What to do if running a single person business entity?

If your business is a one-man show, change things and hire someone to take over any of the workload for you. You should always have at least one other person to take over any of the workload and make things easier for you.

Most probably you can offload a lot of the repetitive, dull work of managing the daily routine of a business to other people – that way you can schedule your time in other forms for other projects.

Good, effective time management can help you to get the most out of your business. If you do combine with someone to help with the load, make sure they understand you make all the rules and schedules (that is, do not turn over the business to them).

With proper and effective time management, you need to establish a routine and stick to it as much as you possibly can. While things will happen to get in your way, you will be more productive if you can follow the routine most of the time.

This way people get to know what your time frames are and this makes it easier for them to help you do what you need to get done. Another part of making sure that you actually get things done is to get in the habit of setting (and meeting) time limits for the tasks needing to be completed.

How to eliminate activities that waste time?

Reading and answering e-mail can consume a big portion of your day. Make sure you only allow a certain amount of time for checking the mail, and then ensure that you stick to that schedule.

What about speaking on the phone?

If you know you are wasting too much time chatting on the Internet with people whoever interrupt you, make it so no one can contact you during certain hours. This way you won’t be wasting your time and will be practicing effective time management.

Another good (or bad) time-waster is “looking for information”. You need to be organized to have effective time management. You need to be able to have the files or information you need at your fingertips.

Make sure you set your system up so absolutely everything falls in an orderly fashion. This way you can always find something in a hurry. This will help you to speed up the progress of your project or day.

If you are stuck in an office waiting, do not waste your time. Always bring a pad of paper and a pen if you can. At the very least, you can organize your day by writing down your plans.

If it is something else you can take with you for a project, it’s even better. You can control your life, but you can’t control time. Get organized today and use effective time management to meet your life goals.

I desire to thank you for visiting. Go up before and look around to discover other helpful tips and information.

Even though, you may now know how to adopt effective time management habits and tips to be a successful person, but all words no actions is simply does not make your goals come true.

Take action now is the most right thing to do if you want you goals realized.

Without an effective and proper time management system, there won’t be much goal-oriented lifestyle to hope for.

Understanding the fact that an effective program for time management habit may be easy to follow and implement and now allowing you to side-track is really allowing you to enjoy your life once again. So, please do not wait any longer before giving another excuse to realize your goals again.

If you are like me, when it comes to your knitting, you just cannot leave it alone! No matter how busy my day, there are always a few hours that I leave open strictly for my knitting projects.

Notice, I did not say “project”; as I have many knitted creations going all at the same time. Diversity is the spice of life, but it can also be the bane of knitters! So, what to do when not only your fingers hurt, but your back and neck as well?

Knitting is one of those crafts that is not only fun to do, but can, unfortunately, cause some less than desired effects.

A few of these include repetitive motion problems, improper sitting, arthritis, and the actual style of knitting you do, if you can believe that!

I know when I’ve been knitting for a long time, when I stop, my fingers can actually feel locked up, and my legs are stiff as boards.

So, what to do? First, if you have true medical conditions, ask your doctor what the best solutions for you might be; otherwise, here are five tips to follow when knitting hurts.

First, be aware of how you sit when you knit. It’s easy to be too comfortable, serenely squished into your favorite chair without a worry in the world. Then, we tend to lean forward too much for our knitting; try remembering to sit up straight, or rest your arms on the arm-rests. That will force your body back slightly and help you when you are not even thinking about it.

Second, throw a little gymnastics in there! When you get to the end of a row, wiggle your fingers repeatedly, and stretch your fingers and hands as you finish a section or before changing colors. Make it a habit and it will become second-nature. Exercise done well, can make all the difference, and help to make you feel 20 years younger, take it from me!

Third, if you suffer from arthritis, try knitting with circular needles more than with straight needles, as circular needles tend to keep your work more in your lap and the weight of your work off your fingers and arms. Therapeutic gloves help to keep your joints warm, and lessen movement; the eight-hour arthritis wraps work wonders, too!

Fourth, knitting is very repetitive. It is definitely not boring, though, as you watch your projects taking shape. Many knitters find that continental knitting is more comfortable as the yarn is held in your right hand, as opposed to the English method of knitting, where the yarn is held in your left hand. Experhyment for yourself as to which method is the easiest for you.

Fifth, as much as I hate to say it, give knitting a break! Arghhhhh….there, I said it! If you are truly addicted, then knit smaller projects, such as dishcloths, booties, baby blankets; and use lighter yarns rather than those bulky or chunky yarns. They can be quite hard to knit with sometimes. Then, besides knitting, try other activities that use fine motor skills, too.

I know as we age, our bodies change as well, but, where there is a will there is a way to knit…. …even when it hurts!

An important element in the Mystery Genre is “believability”. For those who read mysteries, it is the strong desire and underlying curiosity that drives us forward through each page. We want to know; whodunit? Where? Why? How? We want details, satisfying ones ripe with leads. And in the end, we want to believe the events, the characters, the plot twists and turns. We want to say, “Ah, I see. I get it now.” One interesting and informative, yet often overlooked method of achieving believability is the interview.
Last November, I participated in my very first National Novel Writing Month project. It’s a worldwide event affectionately known as NaNo, or NaNoWriMo, depending on whom you talk to.
The kick-off party was held in the home of one of the NaNo writers. The house was packed with tons of people whom I had never met. It seemed to me, they all knew each other.
Close to 30 of us sat, crammed around a dinning table. And further still, hugging all available inch of kitchen countertop space. A handful of folks stood, backs pressed up against the sideboard, and wall. Many previous participants, caught up with their friends as I busied myself with meeting new ones.
“Does anyone know of anybody who’s been attacked by a bear?” My words, blurted loudly, interrupted the five or more conversations bouncing around the room. At the time, I had considered writing my “novel” with a hiking trip involving a bear attack.
The place erupted with laughter. “You’ll fit right in,” a voice next to me said. Then, several writers meandered over to my direction. They shared with me how they acquired information on their story scenes; exit wounds, forensics details and other interesting facts, needed to create believable novels.
During the NaNo kick-off party I realized interviewing did not just belong to those writing articles for newspapers and magazines, or that wonderful gene called creative non-fiction. Fiction writers -including short story writers, poets and the like, can tap into this wonderful resource, too.
Flexibility is the key to success when it comes to interviewing. Question and Answer sessions can be conducted over the phone, in person and through email. Most produce equal amounts of success. Successful interviewers become comfortable using all three.
The prelims for all three are similar:
Research: I see you rolling your eyes. I know it is not glamorous, but, it is effective. Before you even know who you’ll ask the questions to, research the topic at large. Exploring your subject provides a bit of a foundation, plus, you will not come across unintelligent. Also, it may spark ideas for your story.
More Research: Huh? Yes! Once you’ve pinpointed your interviewee it is time to do a very quick background check. If he/she is a local expert, ask around for tidbits. Try the internet, too. Knowing a few fun or personal(positive)facts ahead of time can score big when the Q&As start.
Face-to-Face – I love this format because, if the piece allows, I can incorporate facial expressions and body language into my work. I usually schedule these over lunch(my treat) at a place I know I can afford, where the atmosphere is not too loud with background noise. If an extra meal is not in your budget, spring for coffee. Look at it this way, if your story sells, then the coffee/meal expenses are paid for.
For me, people are relaxed during meals. Lunch supplies a perfect activity during those few embarrassing down moments and eliminates fidgeting of any sort. Food eating also guarantees you have the interviewee’s undivided attention for thirty minutes!
Remember to bring a notebook and working writing utensil with a spare backup. How uncomfortable it would be to ask the food server for a pen or pencil.
Another must-bring is a list of questions. Specifically, the ones you want answered. But ask a few more, after all, you have the attention of an expert here. Take advantage of his/her knowledge. You never know when information might become important to you.
If uneasiness creeps over your body before you begin, start with the basics; name, job title, contact information, anything to break the ice. Before long, you’ll relax. You’ll look, feel and sound like a pro.
Over The Phone – My next to most adored format. This one’s cool because you can conduct an at home in your pajamas meeting and the expert has no idea. I’ve actually done this, when my guy only had a fifteen minute window at 6:30AM.
Here again, be prepared, have a list of questions, but again, be open. One of my most adored things to ask, no matter what format I’m conducting is -“So, what made you decide to become a tennis coach?” (Substitute “tennis coach” for appropriate field.) This questions sparks a passionate response, one usually filled with delicious morsels of information. It gets the pro talking -and me feverishly jotting.
Through Email- If your first two approaches don’t pan out, or, you sense your voice of authority prefers email, go this route. While a little less personal, it is fast and convenient, and is void of the dreaded “deadspots”.
No matter which format you use, always get permission to call or email back for follow-ups. You may need to clarify something once you get writing. Why not snag the green light for this now.
All-in-all, interviewing through any format is productive. Asking your subject to sit in on an interview is something people usually love to do. Few things flatter the ego like being called an expert. The next time you’re writing about a subject you know little about, pick up the phone and call a voice of authority.

Resolve Error 8921 of SQL Server with an Efficient Data Recovery Process:

Microsoft SQL Server uses CHECKTABLE command to check the integrity of SQL database tables. For this, several kinds of check operation are performed by numerous parameters those are set by SQL Server. This command does not work when any of database tables get corrupted and database corruption can take place due to hardware/software malfunctioning, viral infections, etc. These situations can be short out by using appropriate apparatus, so you should use eminent SQL data recovery software embedded with qualitative MS SQL Server data recovery(http://www.databaserecovery.org/mssql-server-data-recovery) process.

Consider a scenario, while you use CHECKTABLE utility for checking integrity of database tables in MS SQL Server and the utility fails to do the action. Following error message is shown by utility, in this situation:

CHECKTABLE terminated. A failure was detected while collecting facts. Possibly tempdb out of space or a system table is inconsistent. Check previous errors.”

Cause of CHECKTABLE Failure:

Due to database corruption, CHECKTABLE command does not work in proper way and internal query which is generated by DBCC for parallelism and quantifiability of database tables is failed or does not work properly.

Resolution of the Problem:

Database corruption issue can be solved by using specific MDF recovery process(http://www.mdfviewer.com/recover-corrupt-mdf-file-free.html) or methods

Hardware Corruptness Issues: You should perform a check operation that database is corrupted due to hardware destruction or not diagnoses the errors generated due to hardware malfunctioning and resolve these errors with correct methods.

You can adopt following methods to know and resolve such problems:
Check the MS Windows application log and SQL Server error log to know whether any error has occurred due to hardware corruptness; try to correct it, if possible.
Database isolation can happen due to swapping of hardware elements of computer system.
Reinstallation of OS after formatting the hard disk can poses database destruction.

If you have checked all the issues listed above and find no error due to hardware, check the restore point of database.

Data Restore from Backup: If the hardware elements are perfectly placed, then you must check the database backup state. If the backup is clear and modified, then you can renovate the database from the backup.

Run DBCC CHECKDB Utility: If the backup solution is not possible then use DBCC CHECKDB command.

If aforementioned procedures do not work for MS SQL Server data recovery operation then you should use a safe and brainy outside recovery tool, SQL Recovery tool is one of the brainy tools available in online marketplace for SQL data recovery.

This Company is one of the most sophisticated software companies dedicated to formulate recovery and conversion applications. SQL Recovery tool(http://www.databaserecovery.org/mssql-server-data-recovery) is organized under database recovery arena for MS SQL Server data recovery(http://www.sqlrecovery.co.uk/ms-sql-database-recovery-tool).

Celebrate

Getting married is by far one of the most significant and exciting events that can take place in life. If you are already married, then you know all about the process of wedding planning and of actually making it through your wedding day. You know all about the weeks or months of strssful planning and careful decision making that go into the process. Anything that takes up so much time must be important for any reason. When couples celebrate their wedding anniversary each year, they do so because they remember how big and how special their wedding day actually was.

One of the biggest reasons why all married couple should celebrate their wedding anniversary each yr is to simply reflect upon and remember what a good commitment they made to each other on their wedding day. So few marriages last in our modern culture that people whose marriage continues to be strong should do all they can to celebrate their special day. Celebrate the accomplishment of making it through another yr of faithful marriage to one another.

Celebrating your wedding anniversary is a good way to reaffirm your love and commitment toward the one you are married to. Several couples used their wedding anniversary as a day to reestablish and reconfirm their vows. You can begin a special tradition of repeating your wedding vows back to each other on your wedding anniversary each year.

Life gets busy, works gets stressful, and as children are added to a family we all know that time for married couples to be alone and keep their marriages strong is at a premium. Use your wedding anniversary as a perfect excuse each yr to get away from work, home and the kids and enjoy a few days or even a few hours of uninterrupted time together. Take turns each yr planning a special event or weekend getaway. Try new things together or return to places that hold special memories. Whatever you do, just one should set aside time to really celebrate and enjoy your wedding anniversary. Your marriage should be far too important not to celebrate.

If it is your turn to plan a wedding anniversary celebration this year, do so by thinking about activities that you and your spouse love to do together. If you love live music, see if there is a good concert happening in a city near year, or take your spouse to a good play or musical. If you love to explore new places together, use your wedding anniversary as a time to discover a good new town or getaway together. Your wedding anniversary will be fun and memorable as long as you are together and as long as you are doing things you both enjoy.

Habits

We are what we repeatedly do.” Aristotle

In the book The Power of Focus authors Jack Canfield, Mark Victor Hansen, and Les Hewitt state that “up to 90 percent of our normal behavior is based on habits.” That means that one by one our daily habits build the quality of life that we lead. In the past, habits formed that served you in any way…the time you go to sleep, how you react in situations, how you communicate, what you eat, what you believe, how you perceive, how you focus your time, etc. Because habits run on autopilot we forget what a major influence they are in the results we experience. It is frightening to recognize that we rarely, if ever, change habits or even take a look to see which ones are in place. So, are your daily habits serving you? When was the last time you checked? Here are 5 steps to show you how to change life and be unlimited by making a long-term positive impact one habit at a time.

Attention- First, pay close attention to your daily actions. So, are there any to improve, add, or eliminate? One positive, new, long term habit a month results in 12 rewarding habits in place by the end of a year, 60 after 5 years. Wow, imagine how your life might be different then! Secondly, pay attention to new possibilities. Take a look at the Ideas Bank of possible daily habits you may not have thought of at .

Adjust- Make a list of new habits to develop that would lead to high quality living long term, and those you need to eliminate or replace. What habits do you need to add or eliminate? Instead of eliminating a bad habit you may add a good habit. For example, instead of choosing to stop snacking you may opt to drink more water. The water fills you and automatically reduces snacking. Then choose one to focus on incorporating into your life each month for maximum focus and success. If you choose more, select one as your primary habit. Choose what you want, not what someone else wants for you.

Activate- Know your motivation up front. What will you gain by making this shift? How will you be different? How will you feel once you have succeeded? What positive results may come from making this change? Review your motivation daily while taking action to develop the habit.

Accountability- Set up a structure to keep your new habit in front of you daily. It may be helpful to schedule it at the same time daily, add it at the top of your to do” list or on your screensaver, or do it first thing in the morning. Tell the world what you are doing, find a friend to connect with weekly for support, or get a coach. You are welcome to pick up a complimentary Rewarding Daily Habits Chart for tracking purposes (which includes your motivation and support structure at a glance) at the author’s website.

Action- Make a commitment to daily action. Don’t just try it, do it! The choices you make in self-talk are part of taking action. Make sure your self talk is coaching you towards success and not sabotaging you. When life gets in the way and you miss a day, persevere. Remember the end result you need and run towards it with enthusiasm. You can do this!

According to Jim Rohn, Motivation is what gets you started. Habits is what keeps you going,” Begin to change habits in order to experience extraordinary new results… one action at a time… Starting Now.

Hurts

You may have noticed Podiatrists are not big fans of the kinds of shoes that any people go nuts over: sharply pointed toes, heels that come up higher than the knees…you get the picture. However, the reason for this is not that your podiatrist has an evil plan to make you as unfashionable as possible. It is simply that the shoes considered fashionable are often the same shoes that can seriously aggravate numerous foot problems.

Take bunions. Now, bunions aren’t actually caused by wearing poorly-fitting shoes, but they do make an already tough problem much worse. Bunions are actually caused because of inborn misalignments within the foot. These inherent structural problems with the foot will place more stress than usual on the joint where the big toe connects with the 1st metatarsal (the long bone that attaches to the big toe and stretches down the length of the middle of the foot). Eventually, this stress may cause the tissues around the joint to stretch and become less supportive, thereby leading to further misalignment of the bones. Eventually, the metatarsal starts jutting towards the inside edge of your foot, and the big toe begins to point toward the other ones. This often results in a bump on the inside edge of your foot right next to the big toe.

The problem many of you may be most interested in is that bunions may make it difficult or even impossible to wear shoes. The truth is that ill-fitting shoes are often the things that turn bunions from juvenile delinquents into outright criminals. Shoes with tight toes, or pointed heels, may put even more stress on an already stressed-out toe joint, further aggravating the misalignment of the foot. The good news is that sometimes giving up those pointy, high-heeled shoes may make your bunion problem much easier to bear.

The only way to correct a bunion permanently is through surgery. There are things that you can do, however, to get yourself out of pain.

1)Get rid of the darn high-heels and pointy-toe shoes. Seriously. The best shoes, especially for people with bunion problems, have toe boxes (the space for toes at the end of your shoe) that accommodate all of your toes (not just the ones fashion says you should have), and enable them to move around a bit.

2)Avoid heels that are higher than an inch or two (the lower the better). For any people (although not everyone), this may be all you need to do to rid yourself of the pain associated with bunions. However, many people will find that they need more extensive treatment.

3)Sometimes putting felt or over-the-counter bunion pads on your bunion will reduce the pressure on the prominence and provide considerable relief.

4)Taping the foot (you can ask your podiatrist how to do this properly) may also help hold things in proper alignment, thus reducing the stress on your joint.

5)You can reduce the inflammation associated with bunions by applying ice for twenty minutes an hour (always use a thin towel between ice and your skin), or by using anti-inflammatory medications such as ibuprofen. (Your podiatrist may occasionally prescribe a more potent anti-inflammatory oral or injected medication.)

6)Some people also find that physical therapy (specifically ultrasound therapy) may reduce bunion pain.

7)If your podiatrist deems it necessary, orthotics may be used to try to correct the original misalignment that caused the problem and thus prevent the bunion from worsening.

Unfortunately, sometimes the above treatments don’t correct the problem enough to enable you to live without significant pain. If that’s the case, then it may be time to discuss surgical options with your podiatrist.

Recovery

Just imagine this – Working day and night on a special project, about to end it and just when you leave your seat for a coffee break; your computer screen turns black as you return back.
The complete project has been ruined and you are left with nothing. What do you conclude the cause of sudden black out on your computer screen.

Could it be just an unexpected system shutdown? – Try to reboot, you can do this 2 to 3 times.

Could it be a Loose Connection? Check and tighten all the connections.

Could it be a hard drive failure? IS IT POSSIBLE? So first perform checking of your hard disk controller, which can also create this situation? You can always try to switch your hard drive from IDE1 to IDE2 and view if it fixes the problem.
If the problem is not solved, take out the hard disk and attach it to another computer system. If it is still not working, you can expect a hard drive failure.

So does it means that you have lost all your important data, files, images, your favorite music, emails and all the important stuff saved on your computer system.

At this point, it’s important to stay calm, do not PANIC! There may be hope yet!

You can try different options to recover the lost data:

Test it on another Computer System: As soon as you discover that your hard drive is not working properly or there are any creepy noises from your hard drive take out the hard disk and test it on your friend’s computer system. If the hard drive runs on second computer system then there is no problem but if does not then its time to select data recovery software or data recovery services.

Hard Drive Recovery Software: There are many hard disk data recovery software to retrieve the lost data. Several data recovery companies offer data recovery, file recovery software to recover data.
You can try any of the software which is typically available for FREE demo downloads. These data recovery software range completely scan your corrupt hard drive and restore every bit of data from your damaged disk. Try the demo version and then purchase FULL version of the data recovery software. These are available at reasonable prices and does work and recover data effectively.

Hard Drive Recovery Services: Hard drive recovery services are beneficial in the situations when the data recovery software cannot recover data because of high corruption level of the hard disk. In this case, data recovery is performed by a data recovery technician in Class 100 Clean room. These clean rooms are equipped with high biometric security and are the best and safe place to perform data recovery as keen observation and adequate environment is required for this process.
Hard drive recovery services are the assured means of data recovery even in the complex cases like where data becomes inaccessible due to;

Fire water damages

Hard disk crashes

Burnt hard drive

Computer system dropped from a certain height

Corrupt hard drive due to sabotages or frauds

Intentional damages to the hard drive

And there are endless reasons and situations where your hard drive becomes corrupt.
Generally these services are based on quotes on the type of media, level of corruption of your hard drive and the amount of data which you want to recover. These data recovery services can cost you around tens of thousands of dollars resulting into heavy expenses.

Most of the time data can be effectively recovered with the help of these data recovery services and the concerned company will also transfer the recovered data onto a media of your choice without any extra charges.

In the end, if you do not want to run from company to company for recovery of your data, always ensure to perform regular backups of your valuable data and have a tension free and data safe world.

Habits

The thought manifests as word;
The word manifests as deed;
The deed develops into habit;
And habit hardens into character.
So watch the thought and its ways with care,
And let it spring from love
Born out of concern for all beings.

The Buddha

A cocaine addict, a working person raising a family, a seeker practicing meditation and service, and a highly conscious sage all have the same motivation: the core drive. We all want avoidance of suffering and permanent Love, peace, and safety. What separates us is our habits. Habits rule destiny. Our life is a sequence of habits that determine our course and evolution.

We all have a mix of good and bad habits. Bad habits cause untold suffering. Good habits serve us in the cause of our liberation. To understand how we got where we are and how to change direction, we need to understand the formation and transformation of habits. The seeker will need to release the energy captured by bad habits and transfer this power to liberating good habits.

Any pattern of thought or action repeated many times results in a habit with a corresponding neurosignature, or brain groove. The brain is composed of approximately 100 billion cells, called neurons. A brain groove is a series of interconnected neurons that carry the thought patterns of a particular habit. Attention feeds the habit. When we give our attention to a habit, we activate the brain groove, releasing the thoughts, desires, and actions related to that habit.

The good news is that the brain is malleable. We can change our thoughts and behavior by recruiting new cells to form new brain grooves. Every thought and action is recorded within the interconnected nerve cells, and each repetition adds new depth to the brain groove. If we repeat a thought and action enough times, a habit is formed. Continued repetition strengthens the power of the habit. Inattention and lack of repetition weakens the power of the habit. These principles apply to the formation of both good and bad habits. Positive thoughts and actions create good habits. Negative thoughts and actions create harmful habits.

We can use these principles to eliminate and replace bad habits with good ones. We can gradually starve bad habits to death by not giving them our attention. As we pay more attention to forming a good habit, the new brain groove slowly gains power. Eventually, the new positive brain groove dominates the negative groove, and good habits drive out the bad. Without this transformation, spiritual growth is impossible.

When we are assigned painful problems in the school of life, we need to do the homework. All too often, however, we play hooky by escaping into the pleasures of a bad habit. If we repeat this behavior, at some point we get addicted. We end up with the original problem and a host of additional difficulties associated with addiction. Addiction leads to wild emotions, mental storms, paranoia, rage, humiliation, chaotic relationships, job loss, disease, and death. We can avoid this by doing our homework, by learning how to be good pain managers.

Learning how to manage our suffering is critical on the spiritual path. However, most of us slide down the path of bad habits early in our lives in our attempt to avoid pain.
Bad habits include smoking, use of drugs or alcohol, excessive eating, compulsive gambling, compulsive shopping, addiction to the internet, computer or television, addiction to sex, money, fame, work, activity, power, or dependency on others at the expense of independence and individuality (a condition known as codependency or relationship addiction). Although bad habits are pleasurable in the beginning, their eventual evolution into emptiness and torment is inevitable as they force us to act in ways contrary to our true nature. We want to express Love, compassion, kindness, patience, and courage.
To begin the process of transforming bad habits to spiritual power, we must recognize that the pain of the bad habit is worse than the pain of healing. Cultivating good habits is difficult, but it is more difficult to maintain bad habits.

The time to create these positive habits is now. Every time we repeat a thought or action of a bad habit, it maintains or gains power.

Procrastination weakens our will to the point that we think we cannot change. Before we know it, the habit has locked us in a prison of our own making. We may not even know if a habit already has enough power to imprison us for decades: we only discover its power when one day we try to stop it and find out we cannot.

Assume a virtue if you have it not.
Refrain tonight,
And that shall lend a kind of easiness
To the next abstinence, the next more easy;
For use almost can change the stamp of nature,
And either lodge the devil or throw him out
With wondrous potency.

Shakespeare, Hamlet

Following is a technique for replacing bad habits with good, spiritual habits:

1. Introspection
2. Avoid everything associated with the bad habit
3. Constructive meaningful activities

1. INTROSPECTION
Make a list of the habits you would like to change. Examples of bad habits include smoking, substance abuse, gambling, compulsive eating, addiction to sex, computers, money, power, work, and codependency or addiction to people.

2. AVOID EVERYTHING ASSOCIATED WITH THE BAD HABIT
People, environment, routines, and our own thoughts are the breath that gives life to the brain groove of a bad habit. With continued stimulation, a bad habit grows, our will weakens, and we slide off the spiritual path. However, the neurocircuit for the bad habit remains dormant in the subconscious if we give it no thought or attention. We can gain power over a bad habit by avoiding exposure to everything associated with it. Stay away from the negative environment, people, and actions that supported the habit, until the new brain groove is strong. Avoid thinking about the bad habit as much as possible. We are subject to craving in an instant, if not careful. Even a passing thought or image of the negative habit can awaken desire. The more we let the idea play in our minds, the more at risk we are of recurrent addiction. Starve the bad habit to death by inattention.

3. ENGAGE IN CONSTRUCTIVE MEANINGFUL ACTIVITIES
Make a list of activities related to your work, chores, relationships, leisure, recreation, hobbies, and self-nurturance. These activities are a part of your repertoire of positive habits. You can use these activities to ward off the thoughts and impulses related to your bad habits. Such a list might include playing and watching sports, listening to or playing music, television, the Internet, movies, reading, writing, studying, exercise, arts and crafts, board games, crossword or jigsaw puzzles, gardening, paying bills, shopping, cooking, cleaning, taking a nap, getting a massage, and so on.
Keep feeding the positive habit to make it stronger and starving the negative habit to make it weaker. Give the best of your effort, concentration, and attention to the new habit until it takes over and becomes a natural, effortless, and automatic part of your repertoire. Keep battling and you will win. Craving ceases. Peace and strength deepen. Life becomes easier and more natural.
